John 3:16 – probably the best known verse in the Bible – conveys the gospel in just one sentence. Because of his incredible, unchanging love for us, God gave his only son. Jesus, despite having no faults or sins of his own, was willing to take the entire punishment for our sin, and give us his righteousness as a free gift of grace.
The incomparable message of the Bible is that, although God has every right to hold us accountable for our sins, he has made a way for us to be fully and finally forgiven. For our consciences to be made clean, and for us to enjoy peace with God that we have would have no hope of ever earning on our own merits. It’s good news!
